LEGO Builders
Does your child love building things with Legos? If so we have a class that is sure to bring out their creative side while learning beginning engineering skills. Building with Lego also helps with critical thinking, planning, and problem solving. Kids will work independently and in groups to encourage communication and teamwork.
Experiment Experience
Is your child curious about why things work the way they do? Do they enjoy making predictions and then trying experiments to see if they were correct? During each class we will be conducting an experiments together to learn science concepts through hands-on activities.
Tutoring
One-to-one tutoring may be available
I have 2 degrees, an Elementary Education-Extended Major (BSED) and an Early Childhood Education (MED) With Distinction. I spent 5 years in the classroom teaching Kindergarten and First grade. I have run a home daycare including teaching preschool concepts. Currently I am teacher and facilitator to my kiddos, most who school at home.
I am a firm believer that each child is special and has strengths and weaknesses unique to them. I believe in embracing the whole child working toward a personal best which can be done by putting a focus on encouraging strengths while recognizing limitations to avoid discouragement if a concept becomes unreachable. Building skills of these strengths and offering supporting skills to weaknesses empowers each child to reach their best.
I believe flexibility and peer instruction are both incredible tools to help each child reach their best.
As a parent to a Special Needs teenager who is inching closer to adulthood I am reminded daily that tasks some of us take for granted do not come easily to others. Home Economics Upper Elementary Edition (HEUEE) is designed to bridge the gap by offering a class one might find in High School but at a level that is achievable for those developmentally behind.
My daughter learns at home and so I modeled the format of the class to align with her learning style based on what and how I see her learn at home. The result is a hands on learning experiences to reinforce the skills being taught with a bonus of social time so learning feels like play.
